Forest Tracks is proud to announce the release of "A-Swinging Down The Lane" - The Willett Family. This is the first of the planned CD-R releases from The Ken Stubbs Collection.
Although they were settled when these recordings were made all the singers on these CD-Rs are members of an English Romany family that had travelled and worked throughout the South-East of England.
The songs - all unaccompanied - on these 2 CD-Rs were recorded on location in Middlesex, Kent and Sussex by Ken Stubbs between 1960-1962. These are all of the recordings that Ken made of the Willett family.
In 1960 when the majority of these recordings were made, Tom Willett was 82 years of age. He could still sing in a strong clear voice that belied his years. Tom like his sons Tom Jnr, Ben and Chris and his brother Noah, were fine singers who learned their songs aurally from family members and other travellers.
32pp booklet includes short biographies of the singers, interview with Ken,
song texts and photographs by kind permission of the Willett family
Note: These CD-Rs comprise complete songs and fragments and one or two of the songs are repeated because they were recorded at different times. These are location recordings and some background noises can be heard.
