When Frank Purslow selected the songs from the Hammond and Gardiner mss for his four EFDS song books: “Marrow Bones”, “The Wanton Seed”, “The Constant Lovers” and “The Foggy Dew”, he chose “songs to be sung”.

These four song books are out of print but the first book, Marrow Bones, has been revised and reprinted by the EFDSS in 2007. Folk Songs of Old Hampshire : Edited and compiled by John Paddy Browne (Milestones Publications, Horndean, 1987) Songs about Hampshire and songs collected in Hampshire, including some collected by Gardiner. Out of print but odd copies can be found here.

The Seeds of Love : Edited by Stephen Sedley (Essex Music, London 1967) An anthology of Folk Songs of the British Isles. A selection of heavily collated songs which include material from the Hammond and Gardiner collections. Currently out of print.

Songs & Southern Breezes : Bob Copper ( Heineman 1973) Between 1954 and 1957 Bob Copper was employed on a series of short-term contracts by the BBC to collect folk music and regional dialects. Songs & Southern Breezes documents his collecting and the people he met along the way as he travelled through the villages of Hampshire and his native Sussex. Currently out of print but odd copies can be found here.

Everyman's Book of English Country Songs : Edited and compiled by Roy Palmer (J.M. Dent & Sons, London 1979) 147 songs gathered from many sources arranged in 7 groups under the headings Work, Protest, Crime, Courtship, Marriage, Sport, and Seasons and Ceremonies. Each song introduced with its tune and words.. No.33 is We Poor Labouring Men collected by Francis Jeykll from an unnamed singer in East Meon, Hampshire in 1909. Currently out of print but odd copies can be found here.

A Hampshire Collection : compiled by Gwilym Davies (Private Printing, 1972) Ten songs, two tunes and a mummers play, all collected in the field by Gwilym from traditional singers. Out of print.
