FOR THE LOVE OF JOHN
FOR THE LOVE OF JOHN - AN EVENING TO REMEMBER JOHN MANN 1928-2012
was held on 11th November 2012 at the Concorde Club, Stoneham

What a fantastic evening we had at the Concorde Club, in memory of John Edgar Mann.

Excellent sets by Pete Coe, Tim Laycock and Martyn Wyndham-Read, as well as
the Solent City Jazzmen, and a chaotic finish with Gutta Percha's Elastic Band

including several original members of the band, which was very popular in the late 1950s.
Gutta Percha (Mike Sadler) - Vocals and Izal Bumphone Anna Pinder - Pasteurised Milk Bottle
Christine Williams - Duck Call Arthur Charmers - One String Fiddle John Moxham - Mandoline
Andy Jackson - Tea-chest Bass Paul Marsh - Kazoosaphone
Pete Harris - Vocals and Guitar Brian Hooper - Vocals and Guitar

The band really got into the spirit of the evening and everyone sang along to old favourites including:
The Loch Ness Monster • I'm 'Enery the Eighth, I am (in French!) • Momma Don't Allow
Coming Round The Mountain • The Woolston Ferry • You Are My Sunshine

A video of Gutta Percha's Elastic Band was captured on her phone by Christine Hooper.

Lots of old faces too - some not actually looking that old!

"FOR THE LOVE OF JOHN" RAISED £1420,
shared between the Lewy Body Society and Cancer Research UK.
Thanks to everyone who supported the event.

It was organised by Brian Hooper and Paul Marsh. Pete Coe, Tim Laycock and Martyn Wyndham-Read gave their talents free of charge, an unknown sponsor covered the Solent City Jazzmen's costs, Cole Mathieson gave free use of the Concorde, and Forest Tracks sponsored the excellent booklet, which Paul put together - so many thanks to all of those.

A night to remember, as they say! John would have loved every minute of it.

If you took photographs, video at the evening or have memories of John and would be willing
to share them please email: jem@forest-tracks.co.uk
